In just a year, Menchie’s frozen yogurt franchise has risen more than 100 spots on Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 list, the industry’s most prestigious catalogue of the best franchise opportunities.

Menchie’s ranks 127th on the 2013 Franchise 500 list, published in Entrepreneur’s January issue. The frozen yogurt franchise debuted on the list last year at number 253. Menchie’s also ranked 17th in the magazine’s Fastest Growing Franchises list, up from 33rd in 2012.

Menchie’s frozen yogurt franchise, founded only in 2008, added 45 units in 2012, including nearly 30 in the United States, bringing its total to 256 in the U.S., Canada and overseas. The growth mimics the food industry’s frozen yogurt segment, which has surged in the last decade after a lull during the 1990s coffee shop craze; froyo grew 8 percent from 2010 to 2011, reaching an estimated $1.6 billion in revenues, according to IBISWorld.

Part of Menchie’s appeal is its commitment to ensuring customers have a good time. In addition to smiles, Menchie’s also serves up 100 rotating flavors of frozen yogurt in low-carb, no-sugar-added, dairy-free, nonfat, gluten-free, and kosher varieties, along with a menu of 70 rotating toppings such as candies, nuts, fruits and hot sauces. Last year, Menchie’s was named No. 1 in Restaurant Business Magazine’s Future 50 list, ranking it the fastest growing franchise in the restaurant industry with a 748% growth.
